My sister has an 03 Chevy Malibu, she bought it about 2 weeks ago, when she first got it the after market stereo worked just fine, then a few days later it just stopped working. Today I finally had the time to look at it, I have replaced my share of radios over the years but this is a first for me. The fuse is fine and the wires are connected like they should be. However, the red 12v wire is wired to a gold and white striped wired coming from the wiring for a cigarette lighter, this is the part that is new to me, the gold and white striped wire is not labeled as anything. Normally when I replace a radio I am starting out with the factory stereo in place and removing this to bring in the new radio, I have never dealt with one having already been installed by someone else so I am unsure as to what could be happening here, its a first for this vehicle too, even if it may be the radio itself, which wont come on at all. Not sure what else to look for, when I am putting a new one in I just follow the directions on the new radio and the radio wireharness that i purchase. Please help.
